The Green Party District Council candidates for Dursley and Wotton have welcomed the news of extra funding for the leisure centres in the two towns, writes Sue Fenton.
The Pulse in Dursley has received almost £300,000 to fund the refurbishment of its entrance area and a new air-handling unit, while Wotton Pool has secured £6,000 for new pool covers.
Danae Savvidou, Green Party candidate for Dursley ward in May’s district council elections, said: “It’s great news that SDC has secured some of the additional funding applied for under the latest round of funding from the Swimming Pool Support Fund.
“The Pulse leisure centre is brilliant for Dursley and the district. It’s an excellent facility that provides a whole range of community and wellbeing services. The Pulse has been successfully run by SDC for a number of years, and performs in the top quartile of leisure centres across the country.”
Cllr Catherine Braun, district councillor and candidate for Wotton, said of the investment from the government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund: “I’m delighted for Wotton Pool that they’ve secured this funding for new pool covers. The Wotton Pool volunteers work very hard all year round to maintain an excellent facility which benefits local residents and visitors of all ages, from young people learning to swim, to families and serious lane swimmers. We are very privileged as local residents to have such a fantastic facility for our community.”
