Last weekend saw another event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Sharpness Dock, organised by the Canal and River Trust.
Event organiser Max Ward told Stroud Times: “This is Sharpness 150. It’s commemorating the 150th anniversary of Sharpness Dock. The Canal and River Trust are the Port Authority, but there’s lots of other partner groups here today that are involved in the port – The Vale of Berkeley Railway, The Gloucester Harbour Trustees, and SARA the Severn Area Rescue Association.”
The event also offered boat trips from the port to the canal on the Queen Boadicea II where renowned maritime historian Chris Witts told visitors about the history of the dock and the River Severn.
There were also guided walks around the dock, as well as an exhibition at Sharpness Dockers Club of old photographs and documents about the port.
More events are planned throughout the year to mark the anniversary, including a Maritime Enthusiasts Event on Saturday 17th August, a Sea Shanty Festival on Saturday 14th September, and the Sharpness 150 Finale on Saturday 26th October.
