Knowing Isn’t Everything – a moving new novel of family, fate, and finding hope

MOST READ

A retired NHS professional from Nailsworth has turned her lifelong passion for writing into a powerful novel.

Maggie Rogers has penned Knowing Isn’t Everything, which explores the impact of hidden family histories, genetic inheritance, and the choices that shape our lives.

The novel follows a woman who makes a life-changing discovery: there is a history of Huntington’s Disease in her birth family. Her search for relatives and answers leads her to a small Greek island, where unexpected friendships and encounters begin to transform not only her own future but the lives of those she meets.

Blending emotional depth with vivid sense of place, Knowing Isn’t Everything asks timely questions about how much power knowledge holds over us — and whether understanding our past can truly set us free.

The author, who spent her career working in the NHS before retiring, has been writing as a hobby for several years. She is an active member of a local writing group in Nailsworth, where she honed her storytelling voice.

Speaking about the book, she said: “I wanted to write a story that touches on the difficult reality of genetic illness, but also shows how resilience, friendship and love can grow even from the hardest truths.”
