Longfield’s Christmas tree campaign raises its highest-ever total

Longfield Community Hospice’s annual Christmas tree recycling campaign in partnership with JustHelping raised an astonishing £92,360. Longfield will receive more than 80 per cent of the donations after costs, with the rest going to JustHelping and other local charities.

The campaign, which took place during December and January, saw residents register their real Christmas tree for collection in return for a donation. All trees were recycled by three chippers and collected across five sites, significantly reducing harmful CO2 emissions.

More than 240 of the hospice’s dedicated volunteers – including individuals, local companies and community groups – braved early mornings and the effects of Storm Goreti to collect more than 4,684 trees from homes across Gloucestershire.

Graham Thornton was one of 15 colleagues who volunteered from Aviva. He said: “This is our third year supporting the hospice. Longfield is a great charity and we’re happy to be doing our bit for such a wonderful cause.”

Jane Dyer, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Longfield said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated, and to our brilliant volunteers, suppliers and partners who made this campaign such a success. The money Longfield makes from this campaign will help us continue to provide expert and compassionate end of life care to local people and Living Well support to patients and families.”
