M5 motorway closed in both directions following serious collision

MOST READ

The M5 motorway is currently closed in both directions between Junction 13 (Stroud) and Junction 14 (Thornbury/Falfield) due to a serious collision reported earlier this evening.

The incident, first reported at approximately 8:30 pm, has led to the complete closure of the motorway between these junctions. Emergency services are on the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

National Highways and local traffic authorities are urging drivers to plan alternative journeys and to check live traffic updates before travelling. Diversions via local A‑roads are recommended where possible.

At this stage, no further information regarding casualties or the cause of the accident has been released. The public is asked to exercise caution and patience while emergency services work to clear the scene and reopen the motorway safely.

UPDATE: The motorway is now reopen.
