Major update on landmark building

Development work on landmark building Tricorn House has finally been completed.

The former Government Department of Health and Social Security site has been revamped by developers Viladnik Holdings Ltd. The building includes 44 flats, 34 parking spaces, a bat shed, external alterations plus a new glazed entrance canopy.

A spokesperson for Stroud District Council said: “Stroud District Council has been pressing the owners of Tricorn House for a timeline to complete the building.  We have now received (late October 2024) a final certificate from a registered building control approver that the building work at Tricorn House has been completed. This means that the building work has been completed to the satisfaction of the building regulations and that that the apartments are now ready to be occupied.

“Originally, the owners told SDC they planned to sell the apartments on the residential market. However, a Government contractor has approached SDC and local partners during 2024, seeking our views on the potential to use the building to house asylum seekers. The Home Office has also requested a meeting to discuss this option, and this will happen in Autumn 2024.

“Also during 2024, a social landlord, working closely with the owners, has asked if SDC is interested in renting apartments at Tricorn House for local homeless families and individuals. Discussions between SDC and the social landlord about this option are continuing.

“The owners continue to be responsible for the building and decisions on its future use rest ultimately with them.

“In all of our discussions, SDC will continue to represent the community’s concerns and push for positive action. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.”

Tricorn House was built in the early 1970’s and was used as an office building for the Government Department of Health and Social Security.  It was vacated in 1996.
