Motorists are being warned after a spate of near misses due to black ice on the roads this morning, Thursday.
A car driver escaped a potential collision this morning when heading out of Nailsworth towards Tetbury. The driver said: “I was heading out of Nailsworth when a car suddenly slid across the road, but the driver somehow managed to get back on the correct side – it looked as if the roads hadn’t been gritted.”
A Gloucestershire County Council spokesperson said: “As a primary route we carried out precautionary treatment of the A46 Bath Road, Nailsworth, from 8pm yesterday evening.”
Black ice, sometimes called clear ice, is a coating of glaze ice on a surface, for example on streets or on lakes. The ice itself is not black, but visually transparent, allowing the often black road below to be seen through it and light to be transmitted.
