New affordable homes boost for Cashes Green

Work is now well underway to deliver seven new affordable homes at Queens Drive in Cashes Green, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony held in January.

Speller Metcalfe is leading the construction of the new homes, which include five two-storey houses and two flats.

Designed by Trower Davies and Quattro Design architects, the scheme will transform an underused site into high-quality homes that will provide much-needed accommodation for the Cashes Green community.

The works include site clearance, groundworks and the construction of high‑quality new homes with full modern services. The development will also include landscaped communal areas, dedicated car parking and improved pedestrian routes, with upgrades to the access road.

Cllr Gary Luff, Chair of Stroud District Council Housing Committee, said: “Affordable housing delivery remains a key priority for Stroud District Council, and with a significant shortage of affordable homes locally, we’re pleased with the progress on this important scheme.

“These much-needed homes will provide modern, sustainable housing for local people, all designed to high environmental standards with air source heat pumps, EPC A ratings and solar PV panels.

“This project reflects our commitment to sustainability, biodiversity and delivering the homes our district needs.”

Mark Eaton, divisional director at Speller Metcalfe, added: “We’re delighted to get works underway at Queens Drive in Cashes Green, delivering new affordable homes for the community.

“This development is part of a wider programme with Stroud District Council, and we’re proud to be supporting the delivery of high‑quality, energy‑efficient homes across the district.”

This project forms part of Stroud District Council’s wider commitment to delivering new affordable homes across the district.

Several other schemes currently under construction including developments at Gloucester Street, Bradley Street and Cambridge Avenue, are on track for completion in 2026.

Another significant housing development at Glebelands, also being constructed by Speller Metcalfe, is scheduled for completion in 2027, further demonstrating the council’s ongoing investment in high-quality, sustainable and affordable housing for local residents.
