New artists added to emerging record label

Sound Records, one of Stroud’s celebrated independent record stores, is about to release two more records on its eponymous label.

Lara Jones’ Divided EP launches next Friday, September 13th, with a launch event in London featuring Lara, as well as support from Unicorn Ship Explosion and DJ sets, including one from Sound Records owner Tom Berry.

“Lara is a London-based electro-pop artist, and the EP is our third release on the Sound Records label,” explained Tom.

“Unicorn Ship Explosion’s There’s a Rhinoceros in the Mega Church launches next month. Their music is very experimental, in the vein of acts like Flying Lotus, and Gilles Peterson played them on his BBC Radio 6 Music show last week – he purposely played it at the wrong speed because he thought it sounded better!

“One of Lara’s tracks was played by Mary Anne Hobbs on 6 Music, so they are getting really good exposure and we’ve had a lot of interest in them both already.”

The first record on the Sound Records label was 2021’s Patched In: Sounds of the Stroud Underground, followed by the Albers EP by Sheffield-based artist Yarni last year.

“We’re currently looking for more artists to put out, and we’re interested in innovative electronic music, and we encourage acts to bring their demos, and if it’s something we like we’ll put it out,” added Tom.

The new releases will be available from Sound Records in George Street, Stroud and on their Bandcamp site.
