In a remarkable display of dedication and compassion, Rob Fisher is set to embark on an extraordinary journey to honour the memory of his late mother.
Rob will be embarking on a staggering 100 miles of running for Minchinhampton-based not-for-profit nursing home, Horsfall House, who cared for his mother Nicola.
His poignant tribute will see him cover a staggering 100 miles by running the charity’s annual Walk, Jog or Run 10-mile route, ten times on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June, running both in the day and through the night.
The Charity’s Walk, Jog or Run event is a scenic, circular route, taking in the local countryside, surrounding villages, Gatcombe Park, home to the charity’s patron of 30 years, HRH The Princess Royal, and Avening Court, the latter two of which are not normally accessible to the public with kind permission granted by their respective owners.
Fisher’s decision to undertake such a formidable challenge stems from his deep appreciation for the care and support his mother received from Horsfall House.
With a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, Fisher and the wider family had for a number of years been supported by Horsfall House’s Home Care service, which supported the family during their time of need. Additionally, his mother had benefited from the respite offered by Horsfall House, adding a personal dimension to Fisher’s commitment to give back to the charity that had touched their lives in so many ways.
“I wanted to do something meaningful to honour my mum’s memory and express my gratitude for the incredible support she received from Horsfall House,” expressed Fisher. “This 100-mile ultra-marathon is my way of paying tribute to her strength and resilience while raising awareness and funds for a cause that remains close to my heart.”
The significance of Fisher’s run is a deeply personal one, with friends, neighbours, The Horsfall House community and well-wishers all rallied behind him, offering encouragement, and pledging contributions to aid Horsfall House in continuing its vital mission of providing not-for-profit care and assistance to those in need.
