More than 500 young players take part in a weekend celebration of grassroots football in Stroud.

Football fever swept through Stroud this past weekend as Rodborough Youth Football Club successfully hosted its first football tournament in two decades, welcoming 60 teams from across Gloucestershire for a memorable celebration of grassroots football.

Held at Stroud Rugby Club, the two-day tournament brought together more than 500 young players from Under-7s through to Under-13s, alongside hundreds of parents, grandparents, friends and supporters who gathered to cheer on the next generation of local football talent.

One of the standout moments of the weekend was the inaugural Stroud District Girls’ Tournament, providing girls’ teams from across the county with the opportunity to compete in a dedicated competition. The event highlighted the continued growth and popularity of girls’ and women’s football within the local community.

Throughout the weekend, players demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm, sportsmanship and teamwork, creating a vibrant atmosphere both on and off the pitch. The tournament not only delivered competitive football but also provided young people with the chance to make new friends and create lasting memories.

The success of the event was made possible by the hard work and commitment of a dedicated team of volunteers, referees, coaches and supporters who gave their time to ensure the tournament ran smoothly.

Rodborough Youth Football Club would also like to extend its sincere thanks to Stroud Rugby Club for generously providing the facilities that helped make the event such an enjoyable and successful occasion for everyone involved.

The tournament’s successful return after a 20-year absence has firmly re-established it as a key event in the local sporting calendar, with players, families and organisers already looking forward to next year’s competition.
