Tom Knowles joins Barnet as Christian Doidge returns home to Newport

Former Forest Green duo Tom Knowles and Christian Doidge have joined Barnet and Newport County, respectively.

A fans’ favourite, Knowles left Rovers last month after a costly contract mix-up left the club powerless to stop his exit.

The club believed an extension option had been activated following the conclusion of the season. However, a legacy administrative error has since revealed that the extension clause was not valid, meaning Knowles departed as a free agent at the end of his contract to team up with the Bees.

Knowles scored 10 goals in 45 National League games this season, having joined the club from Walsall in 2024.

Meanwhile, Doidge has signed for his hometown club Newport County after departing the New Lawn at the end of last season.

“It’s my hometown club. I came here as a kid many times, watched the big games, I even remember being down at Spytty Park (Newport’s former home) as a mascot a few times,” Doidge said.

“It’s just really special to come home and play for the club I grew up watching.”

Doidge follows Yahya Bamba in moving from Forest Green to Newport.
