Shortwood United’s FA Vase tie away at Street FC was abandoned late on following a serious injury to a home player.
The incident occurred with 15 minutes remaining, with Shortwood leading 1–0 thanks to a first-half strike from in-form forward Alfie Bradshaw.
A post from Street FC on social media platform X confirmed: “Unfortunately one of our players has suffered a serious injury and the decision has been made to abandon the game. Sending well wishes and positive thoughts.”
Street, managed by former Forest Green Rovers defender Scott Laird and Craig Laird following the recent departure of Ben Watson, had grown into the contest after a lively Shortwood start.
Captain Lewis Morgan forced a sharp save from visiting goalkeeper Joe Wright, while Scott Laird’s header from a Preston Hopwood delivery flashed narrowly wide. At the other end, Jack Gardner’s quick footwork saw him go close before Bradshaw broke the deadlock on 36 minutes, finishing confidently to give the visitors the lead.
Street pressed after the interval, with Laird and Freddie Haden both denied by the impressive Wright. However, play was brought to a halt with 15 minutes left after a serious injury to a Street player, prompting the match’s abandonment.
