Stonehouse Town have swooped for Shortwood United midfield kingpin Finlay Byrnes.

The former Forest Green youth, Slimbridge and Shortwood player has swapped Meadowbank for the Ben’s Takeaway Stadium, ending a six-year stint at the Nailsworth club, where he played 180 games.

On his departure from Shortwood, Byrnes told Stroud Times: “I’d like to thank Shortwood, it’s a great club with great people and I wish them nothing but the best for the future.”

Byrnes revealed the chance to reunited with Magpies’ boss Adam Coyle was a no-brainer: “I’ve known Coyley (Adam Coyle) a long time and played under him previously – I know what he brings and what he expects of his teams.

“I’m also delighted to be able to work under top coaches Matt Tunley and Karl Nash.

“All in all, I’m hoping for a big season for Stonehouse and we know what is expected of us this season.”

Coyle expressed his delight at bringing Byrnes to Stonehouse: “Fin (Byrnes) brings leadership and experience of this league and has very good numbers in terms of assists and goals from midfield. Fin is a good person and has slotted into the group really well – and I’m looking forward to seeing him in a black and white shirt.”
