Members from the Stroud-based Miserden Morris and Gloucester’s Lassington Oak appear in the newly released Mother’s Pride, a heartwarming comedy about a local, family-run pub and its fight to stay afloat.
Mother’s Pride, starring Martin Clunes and Inbetweeners star James Buckley, was filmed in Somerset, in the village of Norton St Philip and uses the Fleur de Lys as the setting for a fictional pub called the Drovers Arms.
The plot involves a grieving family running a struggling pub whose lives are changed when they begin brewing real ale. The pub unites a small but divided community in the feelgood film.
Alex Merry, of Boss Morris, served as choreographer, bringing a fun, modern twist to traditional Morris dancing for this spirited production. Viewers can spot familiar faces from the Morris world throughout the film, highlighting the ongoing struggles of British pubs.
Morris dancers from across the country are donning their hankies and sticks, taking to local cinemas to dance outdoors and enjoy screenings. Miserden Morris and Lassington Oak joined in at a sold-out screening at the Sherborne Cinema in Gloucester to celebrate the film’s release.
“I had so much fun whilst filming for this, and it was really great to be able to represent Morris dancing on the national stage,” said Matt Unsworth from Miserden Morris.
