A statement from Stroud MP Siobhan Baillie after the passing of HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh.

“A very sad day for the country and the Commonwealth. My thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family. Prince Philip has been the Queen’s constant companion and rock throughout her reign. He was a man dedicated to his country and to public service. He has left a lasting legacy in the shape of his charitable work and in the tremendous achievement that is the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.”

The Royal Family issued the statement on Twitter just after 12pm.

In the statement it said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
