A free event celebrating Earth Day is taking place in Rodborough on Sunday.
The Stroud community is set to come together for a vibrant day of celebration, learning, and nature action at Rodborough Earth Day, taking place at the Rectory Gardens, just off Walkley Hill from from 12-4pm
The event will bring the community together with local environmental groups and sustainability enthusiasts and experts to explore practical ways to live more sustainably while enjoying what promises to be a fun and hands-on afternoon. With delicious carbon-neutral and vegan offerings from Coffee Pot and The Prince Albert, eco-stalls, live music from the Rodborough Folk Orchestra, and activities to join in with, there will be something for all the family to enjoy.
Visitors can meet local groups including Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, Rodborough Fields Action Group, and Woodcraft Folk, discovering ways to support nature in their own back gardens.
The interactive ‘Reweaving the Commons’ exhibit will demonstrate how we can respect and restore biodiversity, helping us understand how to minimise our environmental impact on our beautiful commons, whilst participants contribute to a woven artwork.
Stroud MP Dr. Simon Opher is set to speak on the Government’s response to the climate and nature crises and the impact for local communities, and Paul Gibson of Rodborough Parish Council who will be asking ‘what can the Parish Council do to meet 2030 targets?’.
Musicians and creatives, Lily and Rhia of Boss Morris, will be exploring how traditional dance, art and folklore can reconnect people with nature, and Rodborough Folk Orchestra will be on hand to provide traditional live music in the afternoon, the perfect backdrop to the festivities.
Food lovers can enjoy refreshments and vegan treats at The Old Endowed School served by Coffee Pot volunteers, while The Prince Albert will be cooking up the ever popular ‘Fi’s Vegan Chilli’ alongside delicious pizzas and fries.
Kids will be welcomed with a Toy Swap stall run by local activist group Parents for the Future – make sure to bring a pre-loved toy to swap!
Organisers hope the event will inspire people of all ages to make small, positive changes in their daily lives. “It’s all about coming together as a community, celebrating the beauty of our planet, and discovering ways we can help protect it and encourage nature to flourish,” said one of the event coordinators.
