What’s on in Stroud this week: 4 – 10 August
It’s high summer and the events programme across Stroud and the surrounding area continues to impress, with community events this weekend from Stroud Community Fire Station, Holy Trinity Minchinhampton and the Top of Town Community Hub.
Elsewhere, those with an interest in the campaign to buy Rodborough Fields are invited to join a community walk in Rodborough, and a little further afield there’s the return of the Elmore Festival and the Bristol Balloon Fiesta.

Regular and one off events
- Learn about gemstones at the Museum in the Park – Tue 5 Aug, 11am – 1pm
The Museum in the Park invites families to discover and explore gemstones via drop in activities. The session offers the chance to get up-close with real gems and minerals, try panning for ‘gold’ and paint a colourful gemstone artwork.
- Attend the Elmore Festival – Wed 6 – Sat 9 Aug
Held annually over four days in early August, the Elmore Festival takes place in the Grade I Listed 13th-century Church of St John the Baptist, Elmore, on the banks of the River Severn. Alongside classical and jazz performances, the festival also lays on hospitality courtesy of the award-winning Pelican Inn in Gloucester.

The team at Stroud Community Fire and Rescue Station open their doors for a special summer open day. Expect demonstrations, have-a-go sessions, family activities and refreshments.
- Attend the Holy Trinity Minchinhampton Summer Fete – Sat 9 Aug, 9.30am -1pm
Minchinhampton’s parish church invites everyone to a rare morning summer fete, with stalls, a tombola and refreshments available to attendees, in aid of church funds.
- Have fun at the Top of Town Community Hub’s Fun Day– Sat 9 Aug, 10am – 2pm
Top of Town Community Hub throws a community fun day, with activities, stalls, food and fun for the whole family.
- Take a walk through Rodborough Fields – Sun 10 Aug, 2pm
Those with an interest in the campaign to buy Rodborough Fields for the community are invited to join a special walk from the Clothiers Arms on Bath Road, along the footpath up through Rodborough Fields, ending at the Prince Albert on Rodborough Hill. Attendees are invited to dress in red and be a part of a photo.

- See the balloons at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta – Fri 8 – Sun 10 Aug
Tracing its origins back to 1979, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is a spectacular free event which sees mass ascents of over a hundred hot air balloons scheduled twice daily. The balloons take off from the hillside at Ashton Court on the outskirts of Bristol, with stalls and food and drink available to attendees and late night Nightglows with music from BBC Radio Bristol.
