Christmas cheer: popular pub remains open despite power outage

Despite a power outage, the spirit of Christmas is in the air at a popular pub in Brimscombe.

With Storm Darragh taking hold this afternoon, the Brimscombe valley was plunged into darkness at 3.45pm this afternoon, leaving Ship Inn pub landlord Wesley Birch with an impending Christmas nightmare.

However, the quick-thinking landlord came to the rescue to keep his regulars fed and watered, he told Stroud Times: “We’ve managed to feed all of our Christmas bookings using wood fired ovens, a small generator and a blowtorch.

“We’re using our phones for a hotspot to get a connection so people can pay that way.

“People have been thanking us for our community service by staying open and providing drinkers with a cosy Saturday evening.”
