17th-century Stroud venue opens its doors again to the public for Heritage Open Days festival this September

The Hill, a unique 17th-century building in Stroud, will open its doors on Saturday 13th September from 10am – 4pm as part of ‘Heritage Open Days’, a national festival of events.

Heritage Open Days celebrate history and culture across England and give people a chance to see hidden places they may have overlooked.

Following a successful open day last year with around 300 visitors, The Hill is throwing the doors open again to welcome in members of the public. This is a rare opportunity to explore the historic grounds and unique rooms that date back to 1634. Today the building is owned by the Stroud Masons and is open to the public for private event hire including weddings, parties, christenings, and corporate events.

During the open day you will have the chance to find out more about its history and visit the Masonic Temple, which is not usually open to the public. Inside you’ll be enchanted by the high ceilings, masonry regalia, and other must-see artefacts.

Berry Blue, The Hill’s award-winning in-house catering and event partner, will be there to show how the building can be used as a wedding or party venue. Light refreshments will be available.

No need to book for the open day, it’s free to enter and is sure to be a great day out for couples and families.

If you’d like to find out more about how to hire the venue for a wedding or private event, email sales@the-hill.co.uk

About The Hill

The Hill is a Grade II listed house which was rebuilt in the 17th century for Thomas Webb ‘de Hill. The house still has many period features including original oak wood beams, panelling, and Art Noveau ceramic tiles. The building also offers beautiful views of the distant Forest of Dean from its position high above Stroud town centre.

The unique Masonic Temple (c1963) is home to fifteen of Gloucestershire’s Masonic Lodges and is licensed for civil ceremonies.

Overall, The Hill is an idyllic house that’s an ideal location for weddings, private parties, corporate events, and more.
