All coiffed up for Christmas: Nailsworth’s chic Blushes salon goes back to its roots

Something more than a makeover has been going on behind the scenes of Nailsworth’s Blushes salon.

And driven by a mission to take the salon back to its roots, the Bridge Street business’s glamorous new look is set to be revealed at a special party this coming Friday.

Speaking ahead of the November 26th relaunch for the popular salon, stylist Paige, who led the seven-week project for a thorough makeover to the salon alongside co-ordinator Kirsty, told Stroud Times the work has been all about restoration rather than a simple refurb.

“The building itself, pre-Blushes, had been a salon for around 35 years, but we wanted to pay homage to its roots,” said Paige. “We took inspiration from its previous life as an antique store in order to reuse and up-cycle wherever possible.”

The design brief, in keeping with the company’s rebrand when it became a collective in June, is to improve the functionality of the space, Paige added. “We have opened up the downstairs space as a whole to improve the fluidity of the salon – we wanted to create a more open-plan, collaborative feel, which is in keeping with the core purpose of the Blushes Collective.”

A sneak preview of what’s in store from the Cotswolds-based group shows plenty of thought has gone into the project. Emphasising the use of natural wood which has been sourced locally to Nailsworth, the brief also set out to draw upon local skills and use independent contractors.

“Our theme was ‘traditional meets modern contemporary’,” explained Kirsty. “We wanted to use reclaimed wood for the salon stations to add a rustic, country-style feeling of warmth. Throughout the salon, the team has also upcycled preloved furniture to give it a second life, with a final effect that echoes the styling of the collective’s Oxford and Cirencester salons.

“The basin area will feature a mural wall, following elements of the botanical touches, incorporating nature inspired by the Stroud valleys,” Paige added.

First impressions suggest a treat for regular clients, with many small details to enhance the experience of the salon, down to small touches such as installing natural lighting bulbs to increase the flow of light throughout. Blushes says its core purpose is to create “dynamic environments where people come to flourish”

With that in mind, the Nailsworth team really has brought its salon vision to life, creating a beautiful lifestyle space for Nailsworth to celebrate – and all in time for Christmas!
