A motion to put a single domestic abuse strategy in place has been passed by Stroud District Council.
Councillor Katrina Davis, Cainscross Ward put the motion forward: “I’m delighted,” Cllr Davis confirmed.
“I was delighted to receive unanimous vote in support of my motion.
“This will include a named officer taking the lead on the support and implementation of the strategy. The strategy will also ensure that there will be joined up working with other agencies, GCC, GDASS etc to support and ensure the safety of constituents.
“Stroud District Council are currently doing some fantastic work in relation to domestic abuse however I felt that we needed to expand the great work and have one strategy in place.
“With 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men being affected by domestic abuse it is shocking that it is still one subject along with mental health issues which is often not spoken about and victims may feel ashamed and alone.
“I am looking forward to working with officers honestly feel this is just the start and much work needs to be done.”
