As night descended on Friday, a solar storm filled the skies across Stroud.
The Northern Lights – or aurora borealis – appear as bright, swirling curtains of lights in the night sky and range in colour from green to pink and scarlet.
Stargazers were treated to a spectacular sight across Stroud with the Northern Lights visible for many. Some managed to grab some brilliant pictures of the rare weather event.

The lights are caused by energetic particles emitted from the sun.
When these particles hit earth the magnetic field funnels them toward the poles, interacting with the atmosphere and depositing energy to create the colourful effect.
