Members of an online fitness community for people aged 55 and over will soon have access to specialist physiotherapy advice, as Jim’s Gym welcomes Stroud physiotherapist Ed Voss to its growing team of wellbeing experts.
Founded by Stroud personal trainer James Hilton, Jim’s Gym has continued to expand its support for members this year, adding new classes, securing new partnerships and growing its team of specialists to help people stay active, healthy and independent in later life.
Ed joins registered dietitian Ian Thomas, giving members access to expert advice on both nutrition and physical health alongside their weekly fitness classes.
From 21st August, Ed will host a live monthly Zoom session exclusively for Jim’s Gym members, covering topics including osteoporosis, pain management, rehabilitation and staying active as we get older. Members will also be able to ask questions and benefit from his specialist advice.
James said bringing a physiotherapist into the community was a natural next step.
“As Jim’s Gym has grown, I’ve always wanted to make sure our members have access to the very best support, not just during exercise classes but in every aspect of their health and wellbeing.
“We’re always looking at ways to add more value for our members. Exercise is just one piece of the puzzle. The more support, knowledge and encouragement we can bring together in one place, the more confident people feel about staying active and enjoying the benefits that come with it.”
James and Ed have worked alongside one another for several years, regularly referring clients between their businesses. James helps people build strength and confidence through exercise, while Ed supports those recovering from injury or managing pain, creating a joined-up approach that benefits people at every stage of their journey.
Ed has worked as a physiotherapist for 16 years, beginning his career in the NHS before moving into private practice. Over the past five years he has specialised in helping people aged over 45 stay active and continue doing the things they love.
He takes a holistic approach to physiotherapy, working closely with each person to understand their goals before tailoring a rehabilitation plan around them.
Ed said “I’ve known Jim for a number of years and we’ve often referred people to one another because our approach is so similar. We both want to help people stay active, strong and independent for as long as possible.
“I’m really looking forward to becoming part of the Jim’s Gym community and helping members better understand their bodies. One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that aches and pains are simply something we have to accept as we get older. That isn’t necessarily true.
“By helping people understand what’s normal, what isn’t, and how to keep moving safely, I hope to give members the confidence to continue doing the things they enjoy for many years to come.”
Jim’s Gym offers more than 15 live classes each week, alongside over 800 on-demand workouts covering strength, balance, yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Zumba and Dancercise. Members also have access to nutrition support, Fitness MOT assessments and a range of social activities, including a book club, art club and craft club, all designed to help people aged 55 and over stay active from the comfort of home.
