Stroud High School headteacher Mark McShane has praised his students after two years of challenging academic circumstances.

He said: “I could not be prouder of the students. They have achieved the most astonishing set of results in the most demanding of circumstances.

“Over the past two years they have managed lockdowns, self -isolation and the uncertainty of cancelled final assessments – their success is all the sweeter for the challenges they have overcome.

“85% of grades were A*-B – 36% of these grades being at the highest grade of A* and 65% at A*-A.

“Many students undertook the highly regarded Extended Project Qualification achieving 79% A*/A.

“They really have been a truly exceptional group of Sixth Form students.

“I would like to thank all the staff in the school for the educational experience they have provided for our first co-educational cohort as well as the fantastic and robust job the teaching staff completed with Teacher Assessed Grades.

“Time and again students, staff and parents rose to the challenges of the pandemic, and I am thrilled for everyone that the way they have managed adversity has made their achievements shine even more brightly today. The class of 2021 will always be very special to us.”
