The Nailsworth Alzheimer’s Café held its final summer party at Sawyer Hall on July 30th, marking the end of a 20-year chapter.
The café will now relocate to the Education Suite at Longfield Community Hospice in Minchinhampton, with its first session at the new venue taking place on Wednesday, 24th September, from 2–4pm.
The move follows a significant drop in attendance after Prices Mill Surgery withdrew permission for café attendees to use their car park, causing numbers to fall by more than half over the past six months.
“People living with dementia in Nailsworth are still very welcome to join us,” said café host Richard Burt. “We’ll make every effort to provide transport for those who now need it, and there is ample parking at the new location.”
He added, “We tried from January to July to find a compromise with the surgery, but uncertainty over parking made it difficult for people to attend. Without those spaces, the café simply had no future. We’ll truly miss Sawyer Hall and want to thank the town and all at Christ Church for their generous support over the years.”
The newly named Stroud Area Alzheimer’s Café will be open to anyone living with dementia, along with carers, partners, friends, and family. The new address is:
