Workers at WSP Textiles in Stroud and Dursley, have begun further strike action over pay, potentially affecting major sporting events such as Wimbledon and the Snooker World Championships.
The dispute follows a 2.35% pay offer, which union members say does not keep pace with the cost of living. Many employees earn close to minimum wage and have not received an above-inflation pay rise in recent years.
Unite the Union has expressed support for members, emphasizing the skilled nature of their work. Sharon Graham, the union’s general secretary, said the union is backing workers in seeking a fair settlement.
WSP produces tennis ball felt used by brands such as Wilson, Slazenger, and Dunlop in top international tournaments, as well as snooker table baize used in competitions worldwide, including the World Snooker Tour.
Company figures for 2024 show revenue of around £23 million and profits of approximately £1.4 million, with production line workers earning under £13 per hour.
Strike dates are scheduled for 2–7 February and 11–13 February, as negotiations continue.
