Jim’s Gym, the online fitness platform founded by Cotswold-based personal trainer James Hilton, is expanding, writes Fiona Scott.
Following a period of steady growth, five new team members – including four instructors and a dietitian – have joined to meet rising demand and support the health and wellbeing of people over 55 across the UK.
With members signing up both nationally and internationally, the platform continues to grow, offering accessible, at-home sessions designed to meet the needs of this age group. The expanded team brings fresh expertise and a range of teaching styles to suit different goals and preferences.
Jim’s Gym now features a wide variety of live and on-demand classes, from strength and balance work to stretching and mobility-focused movement. Recent additions – Tai Chi, Dancercise, Yoga, and Pilates – add even more choice, ensuring there’s something for everyone, whatever their experience level. All classes are delivered online, so members can take part from wherever they are, at a pace that suits them.
Tai Chi instructor Andy Yau, with over 23 years of experience teaching movement arts, brings a calm, grounded approach through his Tai Chi sessions, helping participants build balance, focus, and gentle strength.
“I genuinely treasure working with clients in this age group. Their mature approach and thoughtful questions reflect a deep curiosity, and their commitment to personal growth is inspiring. I’ve seen firsthand how transformative appropriate movement can be for people over 55 – not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.”
Anna Wicks, a former professional dancer, brings energy and joy with Dancercise – a fun, rhythm-based workout designed to help people move freely without pressure or perfectionism.
“We all need to play and tap into our inner child, and age shouldn’t be a restriction on that. Dancercise is about moving without rules, without judgement, and just enjoying yourself. I love witnessing the shift in energy from the start to the end of class – it’s proof that dancing has the power to uplift, no matter your age.”
Pilates teacher Aimie Dodson, with over twenty years of experience, offers calming yet strengthening classes focused on flexibility, balance, and mindfulness.
“I love how committed and focused our clients are. Many come with a clear intention – to feel better, move more freely, or stay active for life. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch their strength, energy, and confidence grow, especially when they start doing things they didn’t think were possible. It’s a real reminder of what’s possible at any age.”
Virginia Walker, a certified Yoga instructor with 11 years of experience, helps members build core strength, posture, and stability in ways that are gentle yet effective.
“Pilates has taught me that transformation doesn’t happen in one moment – it happens by simply showing up, again and again. There’s no finish line, just a lifelong journey of movement, breath, and connection. Especially as we age, it’s not about pushing harder, but about meeting ourselves exactly where we are, with kindness.”
To complement the fitness offering, James has also partnered with Ian Thomas, a dietitian with 10 years’ experience in both the NHS and private practice. Ian provides clear, evidence-based nutritional advice tailored to the needs of older adults.
“I’ve seen firsthand how the right approach to diet and lifestyle can truly extend one’s healthful life. My philosophy is simple: take a long-term view on making changes and start smaller than you think you can manage. That way, the process becomes sustainable and the results, lasting.”
Founder James says the expansion reflects the platform’s mission to support healthy ageing through fun, accessible movement and lifestyle advice.
“This is a big step forward for Jim’s Gym,” James says. “I’m really pleased to welcome these brilliant instructors to the team, each bringing their own unique approach. We’re also excited to offer dedicated nutrition support through Ian, giving our members even more tools to stay healthy, active, and independent.”
Jim’s Gym offers a growing library of live and on-demand classes, all designed with the over 55s in mind. The service is particularly popular with individuals looking to stay active at home and is increasingly being used by care homes and community organisations to support group wellbeing.
