Shortwood boss Marcus Foxwell heaped praise on his side after Martin Smith’s brace helped the Nailsworth side to an emphatic Hellenic League Division One West 4-1 victory at Southam.

Dom Kent and Dan Gayner were also on target as the Nailsworth side returned to winning ways.

Foxwell said: “It was great performance on a difficult pitch. From the first minute we never gave Southam the opportunity to settle into the game and we were 4-0 up at half-time and inevitably took our foot off the pedal second half and were unlucky not to come away with a clean sheet due to a big deflection.”

Shortwood: Wright, Price, Tryner, Byrnes, Whelan (Foxwell 87), Mace K, Martin, Kent, Gayner A, Smith, Gayner D, (Davis 65)
Star Player: Martin Smith
