The Flying Scotsman is coming to Stroud

Train buffs will have the chance to see the magnificent Flying Scotsman on Saturday, June 12.

Departing London Paddington for Worcester Shrub Hill at around 7.40am, it heads to the Vale of White Horse to Swindon, the Golden Valley line as it heads through Kemble and climbs up to Sapperton Railway Tunnel.

There’s also the chance to see the Flying Scotsman on its return journey to London in the late afternoon, climbing steadily through Stroud and Chalford on its ascent through the Golden Valley – once again entering the Sapperton Tunnel at the top of its climb.

The train will then steam through Kemble as it heads onwards to London via Wiltshire.

The Flying Scotsman was dismantled in 1995 before being restored by train enthusiast Dr Tony Marchington the following year at a cost of more than £750,000.
